Guy McCoy was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to a mother who was a social worker and a father who was a truck driver. He is a retired U.S. Navy and Coast Guard veteran, and served half of his term in Japan, Phillipines, Hawaii, Guam, along with other places in the Pacific. He is a longtime District 2 resident for more than 22 years.
Over the course of his career, Guy has spent decades working with people from different backgrounds, bringing teams together around common goals, and solving problems in a practical, mission-oriented way. His approach to leadership is straightforward: define the problem, bring in the right expertise, assign responsibility, measure progress, and keep working until the job is done.
Guy is not a career politician. He is running for District 2 Supervisor because he believes local government should focus on practical results that residents can see and feel in their daily lives.
Having lived in District 2 for more than two decades, Guy has watched San Francisco change while raising his daughter, building a life in the neighborhood, and experiencing firsthand the challenges facing longtime residents. He believes District 2 should remain a place where working people, middle-class families, seniors, veterans, renters, small business owners, and longtime residents can continue to live, work, and thrive.
His campaign is centered on four priorities: public safety and reducing the impact of fentanyl, improving housing and affordability, neighborhood quality of life, and making it easier for small businesses to navigate City Hall.
On public safety, Guy believes residents deserve to feel safe in their neighborhoods and that city government should use its legislative, budget, and oversight authority to support adequate police staffing, improve accountability for response times, strengthen coordination against fentanyl trafficking, and reduce open-air drug activity and neighborhood disorder. At the same time, he believes the city must distinguish between drug dealers and people struggling with additction who need treatment and support.
On housing, Guy supports practical reforms that make office-to-residential conversions easier where feasible, reduce unnecessary local barriers, and create stronger incentives for housing that working and middle-class residents can actually afford. He believes San Francisco must do more to make room for seniors, veterans, families, and longtime residents who want to remain in the city.
Guy also believes that safe, clean, functional neighborhoods should not be a privilege reserved for people with the highest incomes. He wants stronger accountability for city services, cleaner streets, healthier commercial corridors, fewer vacant storefronts, and a visible improvement in the everyday quality of life for District 2 residents.
For small businesses, Guy supports a Small Business Fast Track that would simplify the permitting process without eliminating health, fire, safety, or accessibility protections. His goal is to reduce unnecessary repetition and delay by creating one intake point, one assigned city contact, coordinated reviews where legally possible, fewer duplicate reviews, and clear decision deadlines.
Guy's leadership style is rooted in service, accountability, and common sense. As a veteran and longtime District 2 neighbor, he believes public service should be about listening, solving problems, and producing measurable results.
He is seeking your support to help build a safer, more affordable, and thriving District 2 for everyone who lives and works here.
